BREAKING: Bears Reportedly Trading Khalil Mack to Chargers
Holy smokes. Not even hours after the announcement that baseball is back, new Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles said, "Hold my beer," and further amplified the sports news cycle. According to Ian Rapoport, the Bears will trade Khalil Mack to the Los Angeles Chargers.
Despite the gravity of this trade, the return for the elite pass rusher seems underwhelming. Per Rapoport, the Bears will receive a second-round pick in 2022 and a sixth-round pick in 2023. Unfortunately for Chicago, those picks are all they receive. Is this package really enough to justify trading Khalil Mack?
Yes, the trade potentially frees up a lot of salary cap space, and perhaps that was Poles' goal. The key aspect of this deal will be the amount of money the Bears either keep or move. If all of Mack's contract is going to LA, then that is a huge amount of capital moved by the Bears.
