Chicago Bears' new head coach Matt Eberflus is working on rounding out his staff and the latest addition is James Rowe. He's the former Colts' cornerbacks coach and someone Eberflus worked with closely in Indianapolis. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Rowe has already joined Eberflus and fellow Colts coach Dave Borgonzi.
James Rowe's Experience and History Working with Matt Eberflus
The 2021 NFL season was James Rowe's only season with the Colts, but it obviously left quite the impression on Matt Eberflus. Rowe has over a decade of coaching experience, including four years at the NFL level. He spent three seasons with The Washington Football Team from 2017-2019 and coached at Appalachian State in 2020.
In 2018, Rowe helped lead Washington to tie for ninth in the league in interceptions. He also had Josh Norman, Fabian Moreau, and D.J. Swearinger notch three forced fumbles.
At Appalachian State in 2020, his secondary was the only FBS group that restricted opponents to complete less than 50% of their passes. The unit also led the entire country in passes defended with 74.
Now that Matt Eberflus is bringing in defensive coaches he worked closely with before, the Bears coaching staff is coming together. Rowe is a fine addition, and since Eberflus has a weekly goal of taking the ball away, the pair will work wonders with an already skilled Bears' defense.
