According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, the Chicago Bears are expected to sign former Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi. Since losing several defensive players within the last week, the Bears have a big hole to fill and need an inside pass-rusher.
Ogunjobi had a breakout year in 2021 but he’s been pretty consistent throughout his career. In four seasons with the Cleveland Browns, Ogunjobi recorded 14.5 sacks. He also added 29 tackles-for-loss across those four seasons. Last year, he racked up seven sacks alone in Cincinnati and added 16 QB hits and 12 tackles-for-loss.
According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, Larry Ogunjobi’s contract with the Bears will be a three-year deal. This reportedly will be worth $40.5 million including $26.35 million guaranteed.
New Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus’ Tampa 2 defense relies heavily on a three-technique defensive tackle. Ogunjobi could fit well and $13.5 million per year is not horrible for the value he provides. Considering how vital the position will be on this defense, this signing makes sense. This is especially crucial after losing both Akiem Hicks and Khalil Mack.
