According to recent reports, a member of the Chicago Bears coaching staff and a personnel executive attended Notre Dame’s pro day yesterday. The Bears’ representation at the event comes as no surprise considering Notre Dame usually sends a few players to the NFL Draft every year. That list includes the Bears’ 2020 first-rounder pick, Cole Kmet.
But the surprising part of the report is that the Bears had several discussions with Ian Book.
Book is coming off a stellar season in which he posted the best stats of his four-year career at Notre Dame. He led the Irish to the College Football Playoff, where they ultimately lost to Alabama. Book currently ranks as the ninth quarterback available in this year’s draft class, according to NFL Draft Bible.
This report also comes days after the Bears attended Alabama QB Mac Jones’s pro day. Even after signing Andy Dalton, those around the league believe the Bears will still select a quarterback in the draft. But which pick would they spend on a signal-caller? That question is the biggest unknown right now.
The Bears still have other positions to fill that may be addressed in the first few rounds. Book may be a better option in the later rounds if the Bears elect to go that route.
