One of the Chicago Bears' key players from the previous era, Tarik Cohen, recently sat down to discuss football with The 3 Point Conversion. The speedy running back provided a major update on his career and shared his thoughts on current Bears quarterback Justin Fields.
Tarik Cohen's Health
Cohen said he does not plan on retiring yet. Going into next season, he will finally be 100% healthy. Back in 2020, Cohen suffered a torn ACL and MCL along with a tibial plateau fracture on a punt return.
He missed the rest of that season and began the 2021 campaign on the PUP list. However, he did suit up in 2021 as never fully recovered. The Bears eventually released Cohen in March of 2022.
The bad breaks just kept coming as he suffered a torn achilles tendon during a workout in May of 2022. Cohen is a free agent going into the 2023 season.
On Justin Fields
The talk of the Chicago Bears right now focuses on Justin Fields. Though he never got to play with Fields, Tarik Cohen is a big fan of the Bears' signal-caller. He added that Fields had a big presence even before taking over the starting QB role.
Cohen also pointed out what many Bears fans have been screaming all season. "I just wish they give him more weapons around him. Some big names. He’s a crazy talented player," Cohen said of how the Bears can improve.
The Bears are in play to land a top-three draft pick, and they have the most salary cap space in the NFL this offseason. Finding more weapons to pair with Fields' playmaking ability has to be Ryan Poles' top priority.
