Greetings! Time for another beer for your taste buds. If you haven't seen my previous reviews, check out my thoughts on Founders Unraveled IPA and 5 Rabbit Cervecería’s Super Pils. Today, I am drinking Southside Irish Red Ale from the popular Hailstorm Brewing out of Tinley Park. I've had several beers from Hailstorm and they are always fantastic, so it naturally made sense to give this one a try. I found a four-pack of 16 ouncers on the shelf at Binny's in Arlington Heights for $9.99.
Like I've said before, my go-to beers are always IPAs, but I do like to throw in plenty of other varieties to keep my palate honest, otherwise beer can start to sort of blend together. That's why I thought a red lager would be a nice change of pace as I hadn't had one in a while.
Ain't she beautiful? Canned on 2/12/20 and poured into an English pint glass (also another one in a stein). You can see how the head forms right at the top of the lip. I love the label on this one. From the Celtic Trinity Knot to the clovers, it makes for a nice looking design.
The beer pours a super dark copper color that you can't even see through. It had about 3/4 of an inch of off-white thick foam that dissolves and leaves a slight bit of lacing on the glass. It tastes sweet through and through with a roasted malt flavor. The ABV at 5.6% is a little low for my standards, but it will get the job done.
Overall, this is a good beer that I would gladly have again. It's easy to drink and I think it would be great paired with some Irish stews or maybe a shepherd's pie. It is a fantastic representation for the style and I will give this beer a 7.25/10 rating.
