Beer Review: Half Acre - Tend
Tend is the latest seasonal offering from Half Acre. It caught my attention because it's labeled a "Winter" IPA. I am not sure what constitutes a winter IPA, but I sure wanted to find out. Half Acre always puts out great beer, so I was sure whatever it was, I would enjoy it.
I love the color of this beer. It's a wonderful deep copper -- almost an iced tea color. It pours a half-inch of ivory head that dissolves quickly. The taste is mild with caramel and toasted bread accents. There are also light notes of pine and citrus. The mouthfeel is medium to heavy, which is nice for the cold weather. As it started to warm up closer to room temperature, I began to get a bit more hop profile, which personally I enjoyed.
I can see what Half Acre was going for here by labeling Tend a Winter IPA. Overall, it's a smooth-drinking beer designed to fill up your stomach and warm up the bones as the temperature dips down lower.
