The Chicago Blackhawks selected center Samuel Savoie of the QMJHL Gatineau Olympiques with the No. 81 overall pick in the third round of the 2022 NHL Draft.
The Blackhawks acquired the pick to select Savoie from the Vegas Golden Knights in the Mattias Janmark trade. Savoie (5-foot-10, 190 pounds) scored 33 points (18 goals, 15 assists) in 64 regular-season games. He added one goal in seven playoff games. Gatineau selected Savoie fourth overall in the 2020 QMJHL Entry Draft.
“His energy, his physical side, speed, and offensive abilities. It’s a mix of all that which makes him a good player,” Olympiques head coach Louis Robitaille told QMJHL.ca. “He can play anywhere in a lineup, both on the power play and the penalty kill. The more emotional and important a game is, the better he is.”
Samuel Savoie is ranked No. 85 by EliteProspects and No. 90 among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting.
The Chicago Blackhawks entered the second day of the draft with nine selections, including six in rounds two and three. Chicago does not hold a pick in the fourth or fifth rounds, but does have two in the sixth round and one in the seventh.
