The Chicago Blackhawks will be without one of their top wingers Tuesday against the Washington Capitals. Forward Andreas Athanasiou will miss the game as he attends a family funeral.
With Athanasiou absent from Monday's practice, head coach Luke Richardson shuffled the Blackhawks' lines:
Athanasiou had been skating on the top line with Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane as of late. With the speedy winger out, Sam Lafferty will move up to the first line with Max Domi and Kane.
Toews will slide down to the second line with Philipp Kurashev and Taylor Raddysh. Tyler Johnson, who is still recovering from an ankle injury, also took reps on the second line.
Andreas Athanasiou has nine points (six goals, three assists) in 26 games this season. Scoring has been a struggle for the Chicago Blackhawks this season, and it won't get any easier Tuesday with the 28-year-old missing from the lineup.
