The Rockford IceHogs and Chicago Blackhawks made a few personnel exchanges on Friday afternoon, adjusting the NHL Taxi Squad and AHL roster.
Defensemen Wyatt Kalynuk and Nicolas Beaudin along with forward Reese Johnson have been reassigned to Rockford. Along with that group is goaltender Collin Delia, who was assigned on a conditioning stint. This means he does not have to go through waivers.
Johnson skated in 52 games for Rockford last season, registering just over a handful of points. Beaudin was an active defenseman for the Hogs last year and showed some bright spots while with the Blackhawks this season. Kalynuk returns to Rockford from the taxi squad and likely to his defensive pairing with veteran blue liner Cody Franson. The pair showed immediate chemistry and effectiveness prior to Kalynuk's call-up. Delia played in a pair of games for the Blackhawks this season and lost both while compiling a save percentage under .870.
As corresponding moves, the Blackhawks added goalie Matt Tomkins and forwards Brad Morrison and Mikael Hakkarainen to the taxi squad. Tomkins, despite not having a win with Rockford this season, has received praise from head coach Derek King on his work ethic and improvement throughout his career. Morrison is one of the IceHogs' top scorers and has a nose for scoring chances. Hakkarainen, despite not being on the same level statistically as Morrison, has those same features and could add forward depth to the NHL club if needed.
The IceHogs continue their four-game set with the Cleveland Monsters tomorrow night at 6:00 CT inside Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Ohio. As for the Blackhawks, their puck drop is set for an hour later against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday.
