After signing winger Mattias Janmark on Monday morning, the Blackhawks added another winger on a one-year contract, this time inking former Carolina Hurricane and Florida Panther, Lucas Wallmark.
Wallmark's contract carries a $950K cap hit for the one season.
The 25-year-old forward can play both center and wing, giving additional depth to the Blackhawks roster. He notched 25 points (12 goals, 13 assists) in 67 games between Carolina and Florida in 2019-20. He was traded to Florida in the deal that sent Vincent Trocheck to Carolina.
Wallmark also has something that the Blackhawks need, the ability to win face-offs. He has always been better than 50% in the circle over the course of his career, with his career average being 50.9%. Wallmark also spent time on both the power play and penalty kill while in Carolina.
Stan Bowman has signed yet another player who could be a trade deadline piece, as Janmark fits that mold as well. Both players have one-year deals that would be easy to move. However, for the price, Wallmark could be an excellent addition that stays beyond 2020-21.
