As the Chicago Blackhawks prepare to embark on a road trip out west, developments regarding two injured players came to light. Defenseman Caleb Jones and forward Brandon Hagel will both travel with the team on the four-game swing.
Jones suffered a left wrist strain before the season and has not appeared in a regular-season game so far in 2021-22. On October 8, the Blackhawks announced he would miss approximately six weeks.
Jones expressed his desire to play in the Blackhawks' November 20 contest at Edmonton, where he spent the first three seasons of his NHL career. However, the team did not confirm an official return date for the 24-year-old defenseman.
Head coach Derek King said Jones will likely take warmups before Wednesday's game in Seattle to get back into the routine, but the Hawks will "play it by ear" regarding his status for Saturday.
Hagel will also travel on the road trip despite missing the Blackhawks' previous two games. The rugged forward suffered a left shoulder injury against the Nashville Predators on November 7. The Hawks deemed Hagel's absence approximately two weeks beginning on November 10.
Holding true to that timeline would keep Hagel out the entire road trip, but perhaps a return for the final game on November 23 at Calgary could be in the cards. Hagel will practice but not take contact Tuesday before joining the team on the trip.
