Yesterday, Blackhawks defenseman Erik Gustafsson took part in morning skate before the team hosted the Nashville Predators, but he did not participate in warmups and was a late healthy scratch from the game. This morning, the team announced that Gustafsson will not travel on the upcoming road trip, meaning that he is almost certain to be moved ahead of the NHL trade deadline, which is at 2 PM central time on Monday.
Nick Seeler filled in for Gustafsson last night, but it looks like the Hawks are going to give Lucas Carlsson a chance to showcase his abilities in the NHL for the first time. The 22-year-old blueliner has recorded five goals and 21 assists over 48 games for the Rockford IceHogs this season.
While no official trade has been announced for Erik Gustafsson, this move comes as no surprise because the offensive-minded defenseman will be due for a new contract after this season, and the Blackhawks were never likely to give him an extension.
