Blackhawks: de Haan Played Through Broken Leg in 2021
Blackhawks fans have grown to appreciate defenseman Calvin de Haan in two seasons. de Haan has become one of the defensive staples on the team, killing penalties and matching up against team's best forwards. However, one thing people probably didn't know is that the Carp, Ontario native is a tough man as well.
According to de Haan himself, the defenseman played with a broken leg last season. It wasn't a complete break, as he noted, but fractures in the bone made it incredibly painful to go about everyday life. Not only did de Haan play through it, he played 18:37 on average per night in 44 games last season. de Haan showed a warrior-like mentality while helping anchor the Hawks' blue line.
This season, de Haan will have plenty of needed reinforcements joining him on the blue line. With the return of Connor Murphy and his beautiful four-year extension, in addition to newcomers Seth Jones and Jake McCabe, the blue line is in the best shape it has been since the 2015 Stanley Cup team.
