The Chicago Blackhawks have signed defenseman prospect Isaak Phillips to an entry-level contract.

The pact is a three-year deal that starts next season and runs through the 2023-24 campaign. Phillips' contract will carry an $859,167 salary cap hit.

The Blackhawks selected Phillips with the 141st overall pick in the fifth round of the 2020 NHL Draft. The 19-year-old defenseman has spent the 2021 season with the AHL Rockford IceHogs, where he has two goals and four assists over 14 games.

As a fifth-round pick in an already defenseman-heavy prospect pool, Phillips will have his work cut out for him as he looks to make his way to the NHL. His size may be an advantage, however, as Phillips stands at 6-foot-3 and weighs 194 lbs.

Isaak Phillips becomes the first Blackhawks' 2020 draft pick to sign with the club. This transaction comes a day after the club signed undrafted free-agent forward Mike Hardman to an entry-level deal.
