Blackhawks Place Captain Jonathan Toews in Concussion Protocol

It's unclear if Toews will suit up vs. the Avalanche, though it's unlikely given his placement in concussion protocol.

As the Chicago Blackhawks prepare to host the Colorado Avalanche tonight, the team announced captain Jonathan Toews is in concussion protocol. The forward missed the Blackhawks' morning skate due to the designation.

After a slow start to the season, Toews has been finding his game as of late. In 43 games, the 33-year-old has 19 points (four goals, 15 assists) while averaging 17:52 of ice time per game. Of those 19 points, 10 have come in his last 18 games.

On Wednesday night vs. the Red Wings, Toews recorded an assist, won 61.5% of his faceoffs, and logged 16:08 of ice time. But he took a hit from Detroit's Joe Veleno in the third period may have caused the issue.
