Chicago Blackhawks' forward Mike Hardman exited Tuesday night's game against the New York Islanders after taking a big hit in the third period.

Just under halfway through the final frame, Matt Martin delivered a crunching hit along the wall that resulted in Hardman's upper body crashing into the glass and boards.

The Blackhawks' forward was wobbly as he exited the ice and immediately descended into the locker room.

Not taking kindly to the hit, fellow Hawks' forward Jujhar Khaira challenged Martin to a fight shortly after. However, the officials broke up the scrap before it could really get going.

The Blackhawks had just recalled Mike Hardman from the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL prior to Tuesday's home opener. On Wednesday morning, the team announced that Hardman suffered a head laceration which will keep him out of practice.

Head coach Jeremy Colliton doesn't know how long Hardman will be sidelined, but he won't play Thursday vs. the Vancouver Canucks.
