Blackhawks owner and chairman Rocky Wirtz announced today that the team has relieved President and CEO John McDonough of his duties.

McDonough came over from the Chicago Cubs organization in 2007. His restructuring of the Blackhawks' front office helped the team return to prominence and bring home three Stanley Cups. However, the team has missed the playoffs the past two seasons and was on the outside of the playoff picture looking in before the season was suspended due to COVID-19 concerns.

Daniel Wirtz, who currently serves as the Vice President of the Chicago Blackhawks, will take over the role of President in the interim. A search to find the next President and CEO will begin as a new chapter commences for the Blackhawks' front office.
