The Chicago Blackhawks are marking room for reinforcements returning to the lineup. The team assigned defenseman Alec Regula to the AHL Rockford IceHogs on Thursday morning. Regula did not record a point in his four-game stint with the NHL club.
As CapFriendly notes, this transaction puts the Blackhawks below 18 skaters on the active roster.
However, interim head coach Derek King expects multiple injured players to return to game action tonight against the Edmonton Oilers. Jonathan Toews, Tyler Johnson, Calvin de Haan, and Riley Stillman are among that group.
Toews (concussion protocol) and Stillman (shoulder) have been on injured reserve while Johnson (neck) has been on long-term injured reserve. de Haan is not on IR, but he has missed the last two games due to a right groin strain. Getting all of them back in the lineup against the Oilers is "the game plan," according to King.
All four of those players are on the ice for morning skate. Expect the Blackhawks to remove some or all of them from their IR statuses before 4 PM CST.
