Blackhawks Trade Olli Maatta to Kings for Forward Brad Morrison
The Chicago Blackhawks have traded defenseman Olli Maatta to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for forward prospect Brad Morrison.
A deal involving Maatta seemed inevitable for the Blackhawks this offseason. Acquired last offseason, Maatta was brought in to shore up the back end and provide solid defensive play to a struggling group. Maatta scored 17 points in 65 regular-season games as well as another six points in nine postseason games.
With two years left on his contract of an average annual value of $4.08 million, the Blackhawks were expected to either buyout Maatta's contract or made a trade such as this. The Hawks will retain $750,108 of Maatta's $4,083,333 salary in 2020-21 and 2021-22.
