Luypen becomes the fourth forward selected by the Blackhawks this year, following Colton Dach (62nd overall, second round), Victor Stjernborg (108th overall, fourth round), and Ilya Safonov (172nd overall, sixth round). Luypen is the Blackhawks' eighth and final pick of the 2021 NHL Draft.

The 2020-21 season was a breakout campaign for Luypen, scoring above a point-per-game pace. That followed an 18-point season across 64 games in 2019-20. Due to his small stature, Luypen will have to let his point production do the talking as he continues to develop.
