After nearly a week off, the Chicago Blackhawks are finally back in action Friday. When they take the ice for their home opener against the Detroit Red Wings, defenseman Jake McCabe will make his season debut.

The club activated him off injured reserve, where he began the season due to a neck injury.

McCabe underwent cervical spinal surgery in the offseason, which initially signaled he would miss time into November. However, the veteran will hit the short end of his return timeline and return to game action Friday.

Based on the Blackhawks' line rushes at morning skate, Jake McCabe will skate on the third pair with Caleb Jones. As a result, rookie Filip Roos will be a healthy scratch against the Red Wings.
