It may be Thanksgiving, but the Chicago Blackhawks were busy this morning. The team practiced ahead of a Black Friday matinee matchup and also announced a transaction. Defenseman Ian Mitchell is heading back to the Rockford IceHogs.

This news comes in the wake of Seth Jones returning from injured reserve to play in Wednesday's game against the Dallas Stars. Mitchell did not suit up for that contest after playing in just two games since returning from an injury of his own.

It's been a delayed start to the season for Mitchell, as a wrist injury at the beginning of training camp kept him sidelined for six weeks. The 23-year-old did not record a point and averaged just 14:56 of ice time in the two games he played for the Chicago Blackhawks.

Now, Ian Mitchell will head back to Rockford, where he has three games under his belt this season. The hope is that he will serve in an elevated role and continue racking up points, as he did with two goals and three assists during his brief initial AHL stint.
