The Chicago Blackhawks will sign Cole Guttman to a two-year entry-level contract, according to Scott Powers of The Athletic.
The 23-year-old Guttman scored 19 goals and 45 points in 41 games during his senior season for national champion Denver. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound forward was selected in the sixth round of the 2017 NHL Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning, but his draft rights expired Monday.
Guttman has leadership qualities, holding the roles of alternate captain (2016-17) and team captain (2017-18) for the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL. He also was Denver's captain this past season.
Guttman was teammates at Denver with fellow Blackhawks prospect Ian Mitchell for two seasons, 2018-20.
Cole Guttman is expected to begin his professional career with the Chicago Blackhawks' AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs.
