Former Blackhawks Forward Jimmy Hayes Dies at Age 31

Former Chicago Blackhawks winger Jimmy Hayes has passed away at the age of 31. Hayes played three season with the Hawks.

Monday began with saddening news around the hockey world. Former Chicago Blackhawks winger Jimmy Hayes has passed away at the age of 31.

Jimmy Hayes was originally drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2008. The second-round pick was traded to the Blackhawks in a deal that sent Kris Versteeg to Toronto. Hayes debuted with the Blackhawks in 2011 and played 43 games across three seasons for Chicago. He registered six goals and seven assists in his time with the Hawks.

Hayes was traded to Florida during the 2013-14 season and spent two years with the Panthers. He then played two seasons for his hometown Boston Bruins and one year with the New Jersey Devils. He last played in the NHL in 2017-18.

Hayes is survived by his wife, two sons, three sisters, parents, and brother. Jimmy's younger brother, Kevin, currently plays for the Philadelphia Flyers.
