For a team already reeling due to an 0-4-1 start to the season, this is less than ideal news. The Blackhawks host the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday night, meaning the trio could potentially miss the team's next opportunity to pick up their first win of the season.
Shortly after the absences of Kane, Carpenter, and Gustafsson came to light, the Blackhawks recalled forward Reese Johnson from the Rockford IceHogs. Johnson has two points (one goal, one assist) in three games for Rockford this season.
