Derek King and his coaching staff will sign three-year contract extensions to return with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League, he announced Monday.

King and assistant coach Anders Sörensen signed two-year contract extensions in April 2019. Goaltending coach Peter Aubry has been with the IceHogs for six seasons and will also return on a new contract. The Chicago Blackhawks elevated King from assistant coach in November 2018 when Jeremy Colliton was promoted to Blackhawks head coach.

The IceHogs went 12-19-1 (.391 points percentage) to finish in sixth place in the Central Division during the 2021 season. It is the lowest points percentage finish in the franchise's history since they began their AHL affiliation with the Blackhawks in 2007-08.

Rockford skated more than 15 rookies this past season, including defensemen Michael Krutil, Cole Moberg, and Isaak Phillips, and Chad Yetman who would have played in the Canadian Hockey League in a normal season. The young group was allowed to play in the AHL because their junior leagues [OHL and WHL] did not start their season until after the AHL season started.

Blackhawks vice president of hockey operations and IceHogs general manager Mark Bernard also said development coaches Brian Campbell, Erik Condra, and Kendall Coyne Schofield will remain in their roles. Campbell, Condra, and Coyne Schofield each saw some time behind the bench to aid the coaching staff this season and will do so again next season.
