In the busy world of professional sports, timing is everything. And right now, it's working out perfectly for a pair of Chicago Blackhawks' defensemen and their father.
The Jones family is currently reaping the benefits of some convenient scheduling. With the Blackhawks in the midst of an East Coast road swing, Seth and Caleb Jones have been in New York City all weekend. And so has their dad, Popeye Jones, who is an assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets.
Saturday night marked the first contest of a Blackhawks' back-to-back stop in the Big Apple. Earlier in the day, Madison Square Garden was in basketball mode as the Knicks hosted the Nuggets. The night before Popeye helped coach Denver to a win, he met his sons for an NYC dinner.
And when the hardwood flipped to ice for a Blackhawks vs. Rangers Saturday night showdown, Popeye was back at The Garden for some more face time with his sons.
But the family reunion won't end there. Next up for the Nuggets is a Monday night meeting with the Bulls in Chicago. Conveniently for the Joneses, the Blackhawks head back to the Windy City after a Sunday night showdown with the Islanders.
That timing will allow Seth and Caleb to watch their dad in action at the United Center, much like Popeye looked on as his boys took the ice at Madison Square Garden.
I'm no mathematician, but the odds of three family members employed by two separate professional sports organizations -- and from different leagues -- being able to link up for a long weekend have to be incredibly slim.
Luckily for the Joneses, this portion of their respective 82-game schedules worked out perfectly.
