When DeMar DeRozan landed with the Chicago Bulls via a sign-and-trade agreement this offseason, many questioned his fit. A mid-range specialist, DeRozan needs the ball in his hands to get his offense going. How would that skill set play within the new-look Bulls' offense?

Well, through the first seven games of the NBA season, he's proving the doubters wrong. Sure, DeRozan has generated most of his points in the mid-range game, but he's also hitting the three at a high percentage.

On the young season, DeRozan is averaging 2.4 three-point attempts per game. That's his highest attempt per game figure since his last NBA All-Star season back in 2017-18 with the Toronto Raptors. Now in 2021-22, he's shooting his best three-point percentage per game at 41%.

So, has anything changed in his shot? Is it that he just has more confidence now? Whatever the reason behind it may be, DeRozan's elevated production has been effective for the Chicago Bulls' offense.

DeRozan is coming off a 37-point performance in a comeback victory against the Boston Celtics. He shot 15-20 from the field and 3-4 from downtown in that contest. Anyone who has watched DeRozan play knows his worth in the mid-range and getting into the paint, but the catch-and-shoot three numbers are where he is exceeding expectations.

Of the 17 three-point attempts DeRozan has taken, 15 of them come from the catch-and-shoot. He's hit six of the 15, which is good for a 40% clip. The other two attempts have come in pull-up situations, in which he is one for two for 50%.

Sure, those figures come from a small sample size compared to other high-volume three-point shooters. But if DeRozan is able to maintain this element of his game on a consistent basis, it unlocks even more excitement within the Bulls' offense.
