The Bulls new Executive VP of Basketball Operations, Arturas Karnisovas, has decided not to renew the contract of head athletic trainer, Jeff Tanaka, in what is the second major personnel change after Karnisovas fired Gar Forman last month. It was first reported by Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times.
According to Cowley, Karnisovas was the person who expressed the desire to not renew Tanaka's contract and there were many reasons why the decision was made.
While many throughout the organization liked Tanaka and believed he was good at his job, it seems Karnisovas has his reasons for wanting to start anew.
Tanaka joined the Bulls in 2008 after working for the San Francisco 49ers for eight years. He became the head trainer in 2014.
Cowley also reported that Director of Performance Chip Schaefer will remain in his current position.
