Chicago Bulls City Edition Jersey

In what has become a yearly NBA tradition, the Chicago Bulls unveiled their latest City Edition jersey for the 2021-22 season. In past years, the uniforms were a tribute to the city flag or the city's architecture. However, this season's uniform is a tribute to the jerseys of the past for the team as the NBA celebrates its 75th season.

Each aspect of the jersey and shorts encompass a piece of the history within the uniform itself. The Bulls did a nice job of outlining the important tributes within the uniform here, but we'll dive in ourselves as well.

Founded in January 1966, the Bulls joined the NBA and began play in the upcoming 1966-67 season. During the early years, the Bulls' logo was more black and white than it was red. Due to the early look, the Bulls ensured that logo was sported on the shorts of the uniform.

As a tribute to the 1970 Bulls uniform, the new City Edition jerseys sport the classic white numbers while also displaying the same side taping on the jersey from that time. It's a subtle tribute, but one that is clean and well executed in the team's latest uniform.

Ah yes, 1984. Michael Jordan may have been a rookie, but the Bulls possessed the best lettering across the chest of any jersey. In fact, the script "Chicago" across the chest of the Bulls' uniform was so good that Jerry Reinsdorf ensured his other team, the White Sox, donned the same script on their away jerseys once the team rebranded in 1991 to their present day look.

In my humble opinion, the script lettering needs to return to the Bulls uniform on a full-time basis. However, for now, seeing it on the City Edition jersey will suffice.

Who doesn't love the red pinstripes on the black jersey? The look is so iconic that the Bulls starting wearing the pinstripes once again in the 2019-20 season. The team's alternate "Statement" uniform paid homage to the late 90's look. In the latest jersey, the pinstripes can be found within the iconic diamond on the team's shorts.

Once again, the Bulls hit on their City Edition uniforms. Last season's tribute to Chicago architecture was incredible, especially for someone who is a history buff like myself. However, capturing the various historical elements of the uniform itself since the team's inception in 1966 was a perfect way to celebrate the league's 75th anniversary. In addition, the uniform is well put together, giving off clean and simple vibes while encompassing the various tributes in spectacular fashion.

Alternate jerseys can sometimes feel rushed, cluttered, or be just downright awful. However, the Bulls did a splendid job with this season's City Edition look. This is a uniform that the fans can appreciate and enjoy for the 2021-22 campaign.
