After going 4-0 in the preseason, the Chicago Bulls are working toward finalizing their roster by waiving Stanley Johnson and Troy Baxter Jr.
Johnson, who was brought in this offseason to help fill the bench, posed a low-risk, high reward signing. He can switch on any offensive player 1-4 and brings grit to the team that they are in need of. Johnson is an above-average defender, a skill set similar to that of several other Bulls' role players. Johnson’s best offensive performance in the preseason consisted of six points in 12 minutes vs. the Cavaliers in the opener. After that, it was all downhill.
This move makes room for Troy Baxter Jr., whom the Bulls signed on Friday. This succession of transactions will allow Baxter Jr. to find playing time in the G League with the Windy City Bulls. Baxter Jr., a younger player, has more room to grow while Johnson has already peaked.
The 15th roster spot will remain open, allowing the Bulls to make an external signing or add a player that proves himself in the G League.
