We've heard all the slights directed toward the WNBA.

“Nobody cares about the WNBA."

"I just prefer to watch men play.”

“Get back in the kitchen.”

Just go look at the comment section of any ESPN article or social media post about the WNBA if you need further examples of demeaning remarks.

But comments like these do not come from true fans of the game of basketball. Real fans can turn on any basketball game and enjoy it, no matter the gender of the athlete.

Tuesday night at the Dallas Wings vs. Los Angeles Sparks game, Chicago Bulls forward DeMar DeRozan was in attendance with his daughters.

“Having my daughters witness it, watch women play. To see them as an inspiration is a cool thing,” said DeRozan. “I know know they're tired of seeing me play," he jokingly added.

Having women’s sports is vastly important, especially for the younger generation. Little girls deserve to be able to watch their favorite sports and to relate to the athletes they are watching. The importance of being able to watch someone that looks like them cannot be understated.

Providing exposure to these leagues and having support is crucial. To say these leagues do not matter is repulsive and highly ignorant.

DeMar DeRozan is not the only high-profile athlete constantly showing love to the WNBA. Countless players across the NBA have featured WNBA jerseys in their pregame outfits. Several others can be spottd sitting courtside at games.

Two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant is a board member for Athletes Unlimited, a player-centric league founded in March 2020. Athletes Unlimited features women’s softball, lacrosse, basketball and volleyball.
