On Monday, Daniel Greenberg reported that the Chicago Bulls had an interview with Florida State center Balsa Koprivica. The sophomore big man stands at 7'1" and 240 pounds. He also boasts a 7'4" wingspan and a 100% shooting percentage from three. I mean, it is possible that he only took one three, but that detail is probably unimportant. For the 2020-2021 season, Koprivica averaged 9.1 PPG, 5.6 RPG, and 1.4 BPG on 59.9% shooting. In two games in the ACC Tournament, Koprivica averaged 14.0 PPG, 10.5 RPG, and 3.0 BPG, earning ACC All-Tournament First Team honors.

Koprivica's Strengths

Balsa Koprivica's main asset is exactly what you think a 7-foot-1 center's main asset should be: he finishes around the basket. Throughout his collegiate career, Koprivica improved his understanding of how to position himself underneath the basket. He consistently finishes lobs with dunks. Also, he has surprisingly soft touch on layups for such a raw big. Furthermore, Koprivica flashed the ability to make smart passes out of the post. Another thing that makes sense is his solid shot-blocking numbers. For this past season, Koprivica blocked 1.4 shots per game in just 19.5 minutes per game.

Koprivica's Areas for Growth

To put it simply, Koprivica is raw. His range is essentially right around the basket, and his feel of the game is still improving. As a big, Koprivica cannot currently stretch the floor. He would fill more of a Daniel Gafford-type role despite not having the athleticism of Gafford. However, the potential for Koprivica might be higher. His frame should continue to fill out, and his soft touch indicates he may develop a jump shot. Koprivica shot 68.9% from the free throw line as a sophomore compared to the 59.1% Gafford put up during his sophomore year.

Koprivica is not a constant presence on NBA draft boards. Of course, his size has to be enticing for NBA teams, but his raw status makes his contention for being an early second-round pick low. Indeed, it is possible Koprivica goes undrafted entirely. The Bulls need to do their due diligence on all kinds of prospects and could look at Koprivica as an undrafted free agent, or Koprivica could jump up draft boards due to his size and potential.
