It was a tale of two halves for the Chicago Bulls' summer league squad in Thursday's 78-59 loss to the Timberwolves. The young Bulls ended the first half with a two-point lead but were outscored 48-27 in the second half. An injury to point guard Devon Dotson brought Chicago's offense to a halt. Despite the loss, several players showed exciting flashes.

Key Performers

It was another successful afternoon for Patrick Williams, who had 18 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and a steal and a block each in the loss. Williams continued to showcase his ability as a ball-handler and a playmaker for his teammates. He also contributed with a pair of three-pointers and was the only Bulls player to shot over 35% from deep.

The Bulls' second-year forward showed up with some excellent defense in a matchup with fellow 2020 NBA draft first-round pick Jaden McDaniels. The second quarter turned into an exciting matchup of Williams and McDaniels going at each other on both ends. Williams's athleticism was on full display with a highlight-reel putback off an Ayo Dosunmu miss in the second quarter.

In just 21 minutes of play, European big man Marko Simonovic put up a stat line of 10 points, two rebounds, and two assists. Simonivic and Williams combined for 28 of the Bulls' 59 points. It was clear in the second half that Simonovic was missing the presence of Devon Dotson. Simonovic and Dotson seem to enjoy playing together and have created a few highlights in the pick-and-roll. As a result of Dotson's injury, Simonovic struggled in the second half.

Though the Bulls struggled tonight, they will have a chance to bounce back Sunday against the Memphis Grizzlies. Tip-off is scheduled for 9 PM Central and the game will air on NBA TV.
