When Chicago Bulls training camp opened up today, the players were joined by new head coach Billy Donovan and the new front office heads Artūras Karnišovas and Marc Eversley. Zach LaVine and Lauri Markkanen took part in press conferences, and Markannen was asked about his future in Chicago.
Lauri Markkanen made it clear that he wants to stay in Chicago. During the 2019-20 NBA season, there were rumblings about the uncertainty surrounding Markkanen's future as a Bull. He was not pleased with how he was used and it seems that former head coach Jim Boylen didn't know how to properly employ Markkanen within the offensive system, making him a spot-up shooter.
Markkanen's comments today indicate that the new regime has turned the players' mental states around and that they are ready to compete and a high level. Lauri has a chance to be a mainstay on this Chicago Bulls' squad and if used correctly, he could be a future NBA All-Star.
