Ayo Dosunmu Named USA Today National Player of the Year

Illinois basketball star Ayo Dosunmu continues to rack up the accolades, this time as USA Today's National Player of the Year.

The awards and accolades just keep flooding in for Illinois basketball star Ayo Dosunmu. After being named to the AP All-American first team to kick off the week, Dosunmu can add the title of USA Today National Player of the Year on Wednesday to his resume today.

While Sporting News chose Iowa big man Luka Garza as their Player of the Year, USA Today elected to go the Illini route with Dosunmu. The superstar junior guard recorded 20.7 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 5.3 APG, and 1.1 SPG while shooting 48.8% from the field and 38.7% from beyond the arc over 26 games during the 2020-21 season.

Dosunmu missed a brief stretch of games near the end of the regular season after suffering a broken nose but returned to help lead the Illini to a Big Ten Tournament championship. He and the rest of his teammates now have their sights set on a deep run in the NCAA Tournament after earning the top seed in the Midwest Region.
