On Wednesday afternoon, Illinois basketball announced its full schedule for the 2021-22 season.
The Illini will open the regular season when they host Jackson State on November 9.
The highlights of non-conference play include visiting Marquette for the Gavitt Tipoff Games on November 15 and the Hall of Fame Classic, which will pin Illinois up against Cincinnati at a neutral site in Kansas City on November 22. Additionally, the Illini host Notre Dame in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge on November 29, and Arizona will visit State Farm Center on December 11. The annual Braggin' Rights game against Missouri will take place in St. Louis on December 22.
Illinois begins Big Ten play by hosting Rutgers on December 3 and visiting Iowa on December 6. Non-conference matchups comprise the remainder of the December slate following those contests. When the calendar turns to 2022, however, the Illini will face conference opponents from January through the beginning of March. The Illinois regular-season slate concludes with a home game against Iowa on March 6. The Big Ten Tournament runs from March 9 through March 13 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
The 2021-22 Illinois basketball schedule could be one of the toughest in college basketball depending on the competition in the Big Ten. But with the return of stars players Kofi Cockburn and Trent Frazier plus defensive stalwart Da'Monte Williams, the Fighting Illini should be well-equipped to handle the grind and could rank in the preseason top-10 soon.
