The Fighting Illini will not have a chance to squeeze in final tune-up before Big Ten play begins. Wednesday's (Dec. 29) Illinois vs. Florida A&M game is canceled due to positive COVID-19 tests within the Illini program (players not specified). The game will not be rescheduled.
Illinois last played Dec. 22, defeating Mizzou handily in the annual Braggin' Rights game. Florida A&M originally represented the Illini's final non-conference test of the season. Instead, Illinois will look to get healthy before opening Big Ten action at Minnesota on Jan. 2.
Brad Underwood's team will enter conference play with a 9-3 record. The Illini are currently on a two-game winning streak thanks to the aforementioned victory over Mizzou and a blowout of St. Francis (PA).
As for their next opponent, Minnesota has one non-conference game remaining before hosting Illinois. The Gophers face Alcorn State on Dec. 29 as they look to build on their 10-1 record.
