Loyola University Chicago will join the Atlantic 10 Conference for the 2022-23 season, a school press release outlined Tuesday. The Ramblers are currently part of the Missouri Valley Conference. This move should be considered an upgrade for all teams at Loyola, as the Atlantic 10 is a step up in competition.
With Loyola joining the Atlantic 10, both A-10 Presidents Council Chair Dr. Mark C. Reed and Loyola Athletic Director Steve Watson shared remarks on the monumental news.
"Welcoming Loyola University Chicago was not a difficult decision for the Presidents Council, due to its similarity with our member institutions, including the value Loyola places on conducting successful athletics in harmony with a nationally recognized, broad-based educational profile. On behalf of the leadership of the Atlantic 10, I welcome Dr. Rooney, Steve Watson and the entire Loyola family into our outstanding conference."

"Making this transition will enhance the experience for our world-class student-athletes, and they, along with our coaches and staff, are thrilled to be joining the Atlantic 10 Conference, which is one of the most prestigious leagues in college athletics. We are extremely grateful for our time in the Missouri Valley Conference, which has provided a wonderful home for Rambler Athletics for nearly a decade. We also look forward to renewing some rivalries as well helping build the Loyola brand as a member of the A-10."

The Ramblers will become the fourth Jesuit university in the A-10. Fordham University, St. Joseph’s University, and St. Louis University represent fellow Jesuit schools.
Athletically, the A-10 is known as a basketball conference so Loyola will fit in perfectly. Loyola's accolades include two Final Four appearances, with the most recent coming in 2018. The conference has had 34 bids to the NCAA tournament in the past 10 years, making it the seventh-best conference in the country by that measurement.
