The Notre Dame football program's recruiting momentum on defense keeps rising.

The Irish received a commitment from 2022 four-star cornerback Benjamin Morrison of Phoenix Brophy College Prep on Thursday. The 6-foot, 172-pound Morrison is the seventh defensive recruit in the 2022 and 2023 classes to commit to Notre Dame since June.

Morrison chose Notre Dame over Alabama, Auburn, Oregon, and Washington. He made unofficial visits to Alabama and Auburn then official visits to Notre Dame, Oregon, and Washington. He's the No. 31 cornerback in the country and No. 316 in the country overall, according to 247Sports.

Morrison's father, Darryl, played at Arizona and in the NFL with Washington. His older brother, Sammy, played at Arizona and San Diego State, and his older sister was a gymnast at Washington.

Benjamin Morrison is the fourth secondary player from the 2022 class to commit to Notre Dame, joining cornerbacks/safeties Jayden Bellamy (New Jersey), Devin Moore (Florida), and cornerback Jaden Mickey (California). Mickey and Morrison each have a four-star rating, while Bellamy and Moore each have a three-star rating, per 247Sports.

Morrison's commitment looks to be a good pull for cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens, safeties coach Chris O'Leary, and special teams coordinator Brian Polian. The Irish have used Polian, former recruiting coordinator, as the primary source for recruiting success on the West Coast.

Notre Dame's 19-member class is ranked No. 2 in the nation, with 11 commits on defense and nine on offense. The class includes 13 recruits with a four-star rating and six with a three-star rating, according to 247Sports.
