Notre Dame will host its home opener against Marshall on Saturday at Notre Dame Stadium.

The No. 8 Fighting Irish will play their first home game under head coach Marcus Freeman, who is 0-2 to start his tenure. Notre Dame fell to No. 9 Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl last January then 21-10 at No. 2 Ohio State last week.

Freeman and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees will see All-American left guard Jarrett Patterson make his season debut. Patterson missed the Ohio State game because of a sprained right foot. The fifth-year senior will help provide leadership along the offensive line.

Marshall defeated FCS Norfolk State 55-3 to start their season. The Thundering Herd rolled to a victory without running back Rasheen Ali, who remains out due to personal reasons. In Ali's absence, Ethan Payne and Khalan Laborn each rushed for more than 100 yards and two touchdowns.

Henry Colombi was 24-of-26 for 205 passing yards for Marshall, which racked up 612 yards on offense. On the other side of the ball, the Thundering Herd limited Norfolk State to just 114 yards.

The Irish are heavy favorites in this game to bounce back from their season-opening loss at Ohio State. Notre Dame is at -20.5 with the over/under set at 50.
