Notre Dame's season opener at Ohio State will be the site of ESPN's "College Gameday" pregame show Sept. 3 in Columbus, Ohio, ESPN announced Tuesday.
The matchup will see first-year Fighting Irish head coach Marcus Freeman return to Ohio State where he was a standout linebacker for the Buckeyes. The Dayton, Ohio native took over the program after Brian Kelly left for the same role at LSU. Freeman was previously the defensive coordinator.
He is 0-1 in his head coaching tenure for Notre Dame after the Irish fell 37-35 to Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl.
The Irish won the first two games against the Buckeyes, 18-13 in 1935 in Columbus and 7-2 in 1936 in South Bend, Indiana. Ohio State has won the next four games in the series, including two wins in the Fiesta Bowl (34-20 in 2006 and 44-28 in 2016).
Kickoff for this year's game is at 7:30 PM local time.
