Anthony Rizzo Not Expected to Have Extension by Opening Day

Despite strong discussions in Spring Training, the Cubs and Anthony Rizzo will enter 2021 without agreeing on an extension.

A mere two days ago, there were reports that Anthony Rizzo and the Cubs were working on an extension. Today, those talks seem to have come to a screeching halt.

This is not an ideal situation for Cubs fans. The proverbial captain of the Chicago Cubs will now go into his final season with the team with no further plans to don a Cubs uniform after 2021.

To make things even worse, the Cubs have not extended any of Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez, or any other stars that fans were hoping would get an extension this offseason.

Anthony Rizzo has been the definition of a modern day Mr. Cub. His trophy case is filled to the brim with accolades since joining the team. It is truly an absolute shame that the Cubs could not come to any sort of deal with Rizzo, Bryant, or Baez before the 2021 season started. It is very hard to imagine a world where none of those players are wearing a Cubs uniform at this time next season.
