The Chicago Cubs look to end their losing streak at four games Monday, when they start a four-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field.
The Cubs (52-61, fourth in NL Central) have struggled since the trade deadline, losing seven of nine games including a three-game sweep by the Chicago White Sox this past weekend. The North Siders pushed the first game to extra innings, but the next two weren't close with losses of 4-0 and 9-3.
The Cubs are shifting to a six-man rotation to gain a closer look at left-hander Justin Steele and manage each pitcher's workload. Steele will make his first MLB start against the Brewers (66-46, first in NL Central) on Tuesday. He posted a 0.87 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 20.2 innings through five starts at Triple-A Iowa.
Milwaukee is coming off a tough series loss to the NL West-leading San Francisco Giants. The first two games of the series went to extra innings, with each team taking one, and the Giants prevailed 5-4 in the third game. Despite the loss, the Brewers hold a five-game lead over the Cincinnati Reds for the top spot in the NL Central with seven players, including six pitchers, on the COVID-related IL.
