Chicago will play St. Louis in a four-game set, including a doubleheader Friday, to wrap up the Cubs' home schedule at Wrigley Field.
Chicago Cubs vs Cardinals

The Chicago Cubs wrap up their final homestand of the 2021 MLB season, starting Friday with a four-game set against the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field. The four-game set includes a doubleheader Friday because of a postponed game from July 11.

The Cubs (67-85, fourth in NL Central) were swept in two games by the Minnesota Twins to start their final homestand. Chicago has now dropped six of its past seven heading into the series against the Cardinals (83-69, second in NL Central), who are on a 12-game winning streak.

Justin Steele and Keegan Thompson will start the first and final game in the series for the Cubs' as they each make their final push for a rotation spot in 2022. They look to help the Cubs play spoiler against the Cardinals, who hold a four-and-half game lead on the Philadelphia Phillies for the NL's second wild-card spot. The Cubs, meanwhile, have the seventh-worst record in the MLB.

The series will also see Jon Lester pitch for potentially the final time at Wrigley Field. Lester, who helped the Cubs win the 2016 World Series and won his 200th career game Monday, was traded to the Cardinals by the Washington Nationals in July.
