The Chicago Cubs visit the New York Mets for a three-game series starting Monday at Citi Field.
The Cubs (58-82) have a rough start to the month of September with a 2-7 record. Chicago has dropped two straight and four of their past five games after a 4-2 loss Sunday against the San Francisco Giants.
Things won't get easier for the Cubs against the NL East-leading Mets (89-52), who hold a 1.5-game lead on the Atlanta Braves. New York has won four of their past five against lesser opponents at the Pittsburgh Pirates and at the Miami Marlins.
The good news for the Cubs is this will be their second to last series against a playoff contender - Sept. 27 to 29 vs. Philadelphia Phillies - the rest of the season.
