On Friday, the Chicago Cubs resumed their season in Philadelphia against the Phillies. Prior to Friday's series opener, the team disclosed a number of injury updates for numerous players.

Hearing that Adbert Alzolay and Manny Rodriguez have both begun throwing is good news. Neither player has pitched in the 2022 campaign, but a return before the end of the season can only help their respective developments.

In addition, Wade Miley ramping up is key for the Cubs. Miley was a likely trade candidate at the upcoming August 2 deadline, but his lack of ability to stay healthy has dampened that value. Due to the injuries, Miley might stay with the Cubs past the deadline.

As for Jason Heyward, it appears he is getting close to being healthy. Heyward landed on the IL a few weeks ago and many thought it was his last transaction in a Cubs uniform before a potential designation. Realistically, he'll still be a Cub through the end of the 2022 season.

In addition, Brad Weick underwent Tommy John surgery on Wednesday. Weick hasn't pitched since July of last season after experiencing heart issues. Now, the 30-year-old has another obstacle to conquer before returning to the mound.
