After a tough defeat on Tuesday night in the series opener, the Chicago Cubs will have to wait roughly 18 hours to enact revenge on the St. Louis Cardinals. The second game between the teams, scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed due to rain in St. Louis, Missouri.
As indicated, the teams will play a doubleheader on Thursday. The first game, which will serve as Wednesday's makeup, is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. CDT. That game will be followed up by Thursday's originally scheduled game at 6:45 p.m. CDT.
LHP Justin Steele and RHP Miles Mikolas will likely do battle in the first game, as both starters were scheduled to pitch on Wednesday. They'll be followed up by RHP Marcus Stroman and newly acquired LHP Jose Quintana for the Cubs and Cardinals, respectively. Quintana, a former Cub, will face his old team in his first start for the Red Birds.
Tuesday's game represented a rough loss for the Cubs. After an exhausting and emotional day for many players as the trade deadline came and went, the team came out flat in the series opener against the Cardinals. Thursday's doubleheader is a perfect opportunity to steal two games at Busch Stadium and help the Cubs right their momentum. However, the three-game road series will be followed by a pair of home series at Wrigley Field beginning on Friday.
