The Chicago Cubs head north of the border to visit the Toronto Blue Jays for a three-game series starting Monday at Rogers Centre.
The Cubs (55-73) have lost three of their past four after a series loss at the Milwaukee Brewers. Chicago won the series opener, 4-3 in 10 innings, then dropped the next two, 7-0 and 9-7.
The Cubs will be without Justin Steele and Adrian Sampson for their series in Toronto. The pitchers are unable to enter Canada because of their vaccination status and the country's COVID-19 regulations. Because Sampson pitched fewer than three innings Sunday, the Cubs will be able to add two players to their roster for the trip.
The Blue Jays (68-58) won three straight and seven of their past eight before being swept by the Los Angeles Angels this past weekend. Toronto was shut out twice in the series -- 12-0 and 2-0 -- before an 8-3 loss in the series finale. Despite the sweep, the Blue Jays still hold a 1.5-game lead on the Baltimore Orioles for the last AL wild-card spot.
